Postdoc Appreciation Week 2024 takes place from 16-20 September, and there will be lots going on at Cambridge and across the UK to celebrate!

You can find below our daily programme of events and activities that you'll be able to engage with throughout the week. Keep an eye out also for posters popping up in your department from the Your Research, Your Voice project focusing on postdocs' experiences.

 

Monday

UK Postdoc Appreciation Week Event - Into the Postdoc-verse: building relationships across dimensions

Do you need help to stretch your comfort zone and learn to network, authentically? Dr Steve Cross will provide an upbeat, insightful skills session where you will practise your networking skills with fellow postdocs from across the UK. You’ll learn to improve the all-important first impression and benefit from new connections beyond Cambridge.

Heroines of Science - successful entries announced!

We'll be announcing the winners of our Heroines of Science competition, sharing their stories, and where they chose to send their book.

PdA event funding winner - Cambridge Networking Workshop on Liquid-Liquid Separation and Condensates

One of the successful bids for our support to hold cross-departmental events during Postdoc Appreciation Week, this event will build on the momentum of the International Smart Droplets and Condensates Symposium held in Cambridge earlier in September by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and the exchange of ideas among early career researchers.

Participants will take turns to give short presentations on their research over nibbles and drinks, followed by networking and discussion. It is aimed at postdocs in chemical engineering and biotechnology, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, materials, pathology, mathematics, and others.

Wednesday

Workshop: Social Media for Making Connections

Would you like to make professional connections through LinkedIn and network with Cambridge’s research community? Join us for this workshop tailored to postdocs. Anu Hautalampi, who leads on global social media for UN Women, an entity for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment based in New York, will lead this session, equipping you with the knowledge and confidence to expand your circle.

Thursday

Immigration Info Session for Postdocs

A briefing session for non-UK postdocs holding UK visas. You will learn about the ‘basic’ work visas, such as Skilled Worker and Global Talent, and how to switch or extend these to remain in the UK. You will also get advice on applications for dependants, and Indefinite Leave to Remain/Settlement.

Interested in meeting postdocs from across the University in a College setting? Join us at Emmanuel College to celebrate Postdoc Appreciation Week with networking among other postdocs, members of the Postdoc Academy and guests, over refreshments and canapés.

Friday

PdA event funding winner - Neuroscience Cross-departmental BBQ

One of the successful bids for our support to hold cross-departmental events during Postdoc Appreciation Week, this event will be hosted in the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit garden and provide an opportunity to socialise and network with researchers working in neuroscience. It is is open to all postdocs working in neuroscience, psychology, clinical neurosciences, psychiatry or a related field.

From 4pm at 15 Chaucer Road.
