Thank you to all the postdocs who engaged in the consultation and the ballot about the new Academic Career Pathway (Research). The proposals have now been formally approved and the implementation plan has been published by the General Board.
Summary of changes to the reward and recognition arrangements for research staff
Changes to position titles of existing research staff in grades 9, 11 and 12 - effective from 1 October 2025.
The introduction of new researcher positions in grades 6, 8, and 10 - effective from 1 October 2026.
A new reward scheme (Contribution Reward Scheme for Academic and Research Staff) for grades 5-11 will launch in February 2026. This scheme will replace the contribution reward schemes that have previously been available through the Researcher Contribution Increment Scheme, and the Academic Career Pathways Research and Teaching, and Teaching and Scholarship schemes.
Two new promotion schemes will launch in the academic year 2026–27, which will replace the current academic and researcher promotions processes:
- Academic Career Pathways for Promotion to Grades 10 to 12 (ACP 10-12)
- Academic Career Pathways for Promotion to Grades 6 to 9 (ACP 6-9)
