On 24 and 26 April, Nigel Topping, the UK government's High Level Climate Action Champion for COP26, will host online town halls to hear the views of staff and students on an initiated Grace relating to fossil fuel industry ties.

Mr Topping has been commissioned by the University Council to produce a report that analyses the likely impact of the proposals in the Grace. You can read more about Graces and their role in University governance on the Governance Hub.

Staff and students are asked to register in advance for just one meeting. This can be done by completing the online webinar registration form for your preferred session:

Monday 24 April, 12:30-1:30pm

Wednesday 26 April, 12:30-1:30pm

During the meetings, Mr Topping would like to hear views on the following questions:

  • What is the University's role when it comes to climate change?
  • What is the University's current and future role in the energy transition?
  • How would the Grace impact the University in terms of funding, research, delivery, reputation, and academic freedom?

Turn-out is expected to be high, and it is unlikely that everyone will be able to make an oral comment during the meetings, so staff and students can also submit anonymous views on these questions via an online form. These will be viewed by Mr Topping and his team only.
