What happens when you take research(ers) out of a training room and onto the riverbank?
Last week, in collaboration with Dr Alexander Knapp from the University of Innsbruck, the Postdoc Academy hosted a Walking Workshop on How to Pitch Your Research along the River Cam, and the results were energising.
With great weather and highly engaged researchers, the walk and talk format created a relaxed, dynamic space for learning, exchange, and creativity.
Instead of slides and presentations, participants refined their research pitches through conversation, peer feedback, and practical exercises. Drawing on storytelling and entrepreneurial frameworks, they explored how to communicate complex ideas clearly and confidently to different audiences, from academia to industry, funders, and the public.
The setting mattered. Walking side by side sparked open dialogue, fresh perspectives, and meaningful connections across disciplines, all while enjoying one of Cambridge’s most inspiring locations. The participants really enjoyed the unique quality of pitching on the go.
A great reminder that learning doesn’t always need four walls, sometimes it just needs a good question, good company, and a path to walk together. Watch this space!
