Invitation to Making an Impact 2021 at University of Liverpool

University of Liverpool "Making an Impact 2021"

10 May - 11 June

The University of Liverpool has just launched Making an Impact 2021, their flagship series of development opportunities designed to support and enhance research impact in all its forms. They have opened some of the sessions to external attendees from partner institutions, including Cambridge.

Sessions are designed around the Making an Impact 2021 Framework which has the KEF (Knowledge Exchange Framework) perspectives at its core.

All sessions are linked to online resources that will continue to be made available beyond the event on the open access Making an Impact resource pages.

Key sessions that are open to Cambridge researchers include:

• A joint keynote on the National Knowledge Exchange Framework results and future KE strategy by Dr Hamish McAlpine (Head of KE data and evidence at Research England) and Sarah Jackson (Director of Research, Partnerships and Innovation UoL) on Monday 10th May (11:30am-12:30pm).

• From Liverpool to Impact: A career in science and technology in industry and the public sector by Dr Alan Partridge, Executive Director of the Science and Technologies Facility Council and Head of the Rutherford Appleton Laboratories on Tues 11th May (10.00-11.00am)

• From Liverpool to Impact: Moving from Research to a FTSE 100 by Dr Gary Gates, Senior Vice President, Global Business (Pearson VUE) & UK Higher Education on Thurs 13th May (10.00-11.00am)

• An interactive keynote on Making University -Company partnerships pay off by Prof Matt Reed (Strategy Director for the Materials Innovation Factory at the UoL) on Friday 14th May (9.30am-10.30am). Participants will also get the chance to engage with UoL business and Impact development staff and other academics who have worked successfully worked with industry.

• A keynote on how to create meaningful Social Impact by Prof Nick Petford (Vice Chancellor of the University of Northampton) on Monday 17th May (10.00am-11.00am)

• Has business finally woken up to climate change? by Dr Charlotte Grezo (Senior sustainability roles in major multinational companies including BP, Vodafone, Lehman Brothers and Centrica) and Dr Leah Robson ( co-Director of whole house renewables company Your Energy Your Way on Mon 17th May (1.00-2.00pm)

• From Liverpool to Impact: Spinning out your research into a business by Dr Nick New, CEO, Director and Founder of Optalysys on Tues 18th May (11.00am-12.00pm)

• A keynote the changing landscape for international research collaboration by Professor Graeme Reid (Chair of Science and Research Policy at University College London, co-author of the landmark Changes and Choices report on Global Research Collaboration and Innovation: Future Opportunities/ Challenges) on Thursday 20th May (11.30am-12.30pm).

• From Liverpool to Impact: Working with industry to get your research into the world by Dr Ken Lewtas, Director of Lewtas Science & Technologies Ltd on Mon 24th May (10.00-11.00am)

• A keynote on the increased vulnerability of British Cities and how Liverpool is well placed to lead a hopeful future by Prof Mark Boyle (Co-Director Heseltine Institute UoL) on Tuesday 25th May (11.00am-12.00pm).

• A keynote related to the collective knowledge economy by Dr Karen Salt (Deputy Director for Research Culture and Environment for UKRI) on Tuesday 8th June (10:00am-11:00am).

• A panel discussion on “Where can your postdoc take you?” lead by Prosper, with former postdocs, on Tuesday 8th June (12:00-1.00pm).

• Making a civic impact in innovation, culture, and the economy, a panel discussion with James Coe (Senior Policy Advisor, UoL), Prof Dinah Birch (Pro Vice Chancellor for Cultural Engagement, UoL) and Prof Fiona Beveridge (Executive Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, UoL) on Thurs 10th June (9.30-10.30am)

• Where can my research take me? by Dr Julie Torode, Director of Special Projects for Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) on Thurs 10th June (11.30-12.30pm)
